As the first collected volume of AoZ works, this one is near and dear to my heart. If I were writing this review when it was released it would be much higher, but I'm writing it today, after four more volumes have been released, and it just doesn't stack up.

The cover lacks the sharp, bright style of illustration that is distinctly Fujioka, and the mobile suits detailed inside are some of my least favorite in the series. What really makes this volume worth buying today is the gunpla sections. There's a guide on mold making, showing you how to cast your own e-caps, and a guide on masking, demonstrating how to do those tricky yellow lines on the early AoZ suits.
