MS-09R Rick Dom Stutzer Recovery Unit - Zeon Remnant - Build Series

by Chaosdoc

For this build I wanted to extend the Stutzer concept to a utility role. The idea of the modular mount from the Gouf Stutzer previously in my series is what gave me this idea. I conceptualized that the Zeon Remnants might need recovery units similar to the Tank Recovery units of WWII, as well as construction units to build and rebuild supply outposts and small bases on or near their favorite medium, asteroids. I choose a Dom Tropen to convert to a Rick Dom for this frame.

This is the beginning of the build, my initial layout. You may recognize parts from UO, Adapt, MSIA, even Steel Battalion along with other miscellaneous parts.

Some sculpting was needed on the legs to fill in gaps.

This is the mock up for the mount. Think of a giant “Swiss Army” knife.

From left to right- Heat Auger, Manipulator, Crane with Hard Point Attachments, Cutting/Welding Arc on multi-joint Arm.
null

Reverse angle.

This is the fully assembled mock up. Note the Heat Saber for big sloppy removals.

The shoulder mounts are styrene. The Wire cutter is further forward and mounted on a Stutzer Plate with another one on the head.

Every suit needs a BFG and this one gets a Beam Cannon. Remember in space it’s weightless.

Yes, the boosters are from the Alpha Azieru but a much smaller scale model. I think the Gundam MechaSelection series.

I tried to balance out the build, front and back.

Leg tanks are becoming a signature of mine I think.

Heat Auger.

Manipulator is on a sliding mount taken from the Dengeki Primrose Unit.
null

Crane with Hard Points.
null

Cutting/Welding Arc on multi-joint Arm.

Warhammer 40K inspired this servitor type captured GM Ball. Several spotlights help in the black of space.

Tentacles instead of arms is a tidbit of style I thought made it look more Zeonic.
null

Disarticulated for painting.

I wanted to use the camouflage technique of confusion. In space orientation is an almost unneeded distinction unless you are with other MS. So if an MS is floating around randomly faced it can be difficult to distinguish it’s type or affiliation. Paint it like the enemy and they could have a hard time telling one from another if they have a reasonable similarity. Copy this image and rotate it 90 degrees either direction and you will understand why I chose to paint this Dom Stutzer like a NRX-044R Prototype Asshimar TR-3 [Kehaar].

Pre-Decal, Weathering, and Stressing paint job.

Go back to the NRX-044R Prototype Asshimar TR-3 [Kehaar] rotated pic and compare. A few seconds of confusion is all you need sometimes.

Last look. Next post will be the finished unit.
