This is a plan created before the combat version of the Enhanced Land Battle Form parts was developed. This plan was based on the idea of high-speed hover movement using only nuclear thermal rocket engines, rather than nuclear thermal jets. However, because the project shifted to a type equipped with nuclear thermal jet engines, this ended up as merely a paper plan and no actual parts were ever constructed.
Several other ideas were considered and discarded between the prototype plan and the final version. The hovering skirt unit was originally intended to house a compact Minovsky craft system, but this was omitted because the system couldn’t be made small enough. We’re also told that this unit was developed with flight in mind, but it failed to produce enough thrust, so its function was shifted to that of a high-speed hover unit.
The prototype plan is based on the original version of the RX-107, and is armed with the same beam rifle used by the space version of the TR-3 Kehaar. Four energy packs can be attached to its rear skirts, and a shield booster can be mounted on its back. Two powerful rocket engines are installed in its rear skirts, two large propellant tanks are carried in its front skirts, and supplemental thrusters are attached to its legs.
