Profile
Transformable mobile armors, by combining the mobility of a mobile armor and the versatility of a mobile suit, could fully exploit the advantages of both in response to the situation. However, it would first be necessary to incorporate transformation mechanisms into a structural frame strong enough to accomplish the transformation. It’s proven technologically difficult to achieve the necessary frame strength, and up until now this has remained in the realm of academic theory. The NRX-044[R] Prototype Asshimar TR-3 “Kehaar” is a transformable mobile armor derived from the NRX-044 Asshimar, the first machine to overcome this problem and accomplish the transformation from mobile armor form to mobile suit form.
The Asshimar is a transformable mobile armor with atmospheric flight capabilities which is under development by the Federation Forces. As a mobile weapon which can fly independently without needing a sub flight system like the Dodai YS, this new machine is eagerly awaited by the Federation’s ground forces. Due to the high stress placed on the transformation systems under gravity, a prototype machine was initially made for testing in zero gravity where the load was reduced. The Titans, learning of this revolutionary new weapon, forcibly requisitioned this prototype unit and applied their own improvements to create the Prototype Asshimar TR-3.
The skeletal frame which makes up its transformation system is a complex combination of gears, shafts, and cylinders, and this transformable “drum frame” technology will later give rise to the movable frame. Because it’s still in the prototype stage, the machine hasn’t been adequately armored, and when viewed from the back it becomes apparent that the frame of the arm and leg joint sections is particularly exposed. But with the successful development of the Asshimar, an epochal shift has begun toward the development of transformable mobile weapons.
Technical Notes
Equipped with three large propellant tanks with built-in thrusters, which are similar in concept to sturm boosters. Its thighs contain the same supplemental generators installed in the rest of the TR series, and its skirt armor contains a pair of sub arms which serve as landing gear. The shields attached to its arms function as stabilizers in mobile armor form.
Its beam rifle can draw energy from either the Kehaar itself, or from its two attached energy packs. The Kehaar carries four extra energy pack holders, two on each of the propellant tanks attached in place of its legs.
