I bought this because I wanted another GIANT GUN holding machine… even though ZZ wasn't my favorite series. It was also relatively inexpensive and one of the only ones left in stock.
********* WARNING: Your GFF ZZ Gundam MAY BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN MINE*******************
Head:
The head is well modelled and detailed, though some vents that were painted black smudged a wee bit. Some parts seem a litte more detailed than the Master Grade ZZ. The red particle cannon mounted on the head is well detailed.
Torso:
Detailing is well done on the torso, especially under the neck which actually shows some exposed internal metal instead of straight yellow like the MG ZZ. There is an attachment in the rear (waist) to give you the option of installing the standard ZZ booster or the ENHANCED booster used by the FAZZ. Though things are well modelled, the downside is that there is no separation or transformation ability: Everything is \”hard modelled\”… so no core fighter, etc. However, the body is otherwise well represented, even a little more rounded in some areas than the boxy MG version. The FAZZ configuration requires an extra body plate that is installed on top of the std ZZ chest plate. It houses extra missiles which are viewable by removing the missile covers. It fits nice and snuggly on top of the chest. The tranformation into FAZZ for the waist leaves something to be desired. The crotch requires an attachment that needs hoses wrapped to the rear, though the hoses are best glued into the rear attachment or they'll easily pop out as their length is exactly what is NEEDED without any slack. The front waist attachment is not actually secured unless the hoses are in place. The rear attachment needed for the hoses is itself attached to the ENHANCED backpack. So without it, you cannot properly install the front waist section for the Enhanced/FAZZ. Kind of a pain. Further, the side boosters on the waist are enhanced by snapping on a secondary set of blue boosters… BUT, in my figure, this doesn't work at all. The sections that snap on are a full millimeter too long in the snap area so they don't actually even fit (they only fit one way and on the proper side — they are also marked L and R corresponding to the Gundam's L and R side). These may require some filing to get them right.
Arms:
The shoulders are prepainted nicely with no visible bleed. The shoulder verniers remain largely the same between the ZZ and FAZZ except that the blue extension on the top is replaced by one of a different shape for the FAZZ, along with 2 other boosters that are installed in the front of the shoulder area and the white enhanced boosters on the white part of the shoulder armor. The forarm shield seems again a little more detailed (or differently shaped) than the MG version. For the FAZZ switch, removing the shield is necessary while 2 attachable pieces cover the shield holder that exists to make the arm look a bit larger but more streamlined (in my opinion).
Different hands are readily available to hold the ZZ and FAZZ weapons, especially the FAZZ's cannon. The arms are stiff and strong and well suited to holding the heavy accessories, although the molding of the hands makes it a bit difficult to insert the weapons (though I'm sure this also helps to keep them from falling out). Coolness.
Legs:
The legs are one of my favorite aspects of this machine, although, again, they don't allow the proper rotation to transform the Gundam into the fortress mode. The stalkiness is what I like the most though and it delivers. They're quite sturdy and able to handle the weight you'll end up stressing them with when you add all of the optional accessories to make the FAZZ. They do rotate at the waist and they allow for good positioning. Personally though, i would have liked to have had a stand for it. The FAZZ has a slightly different config in that two extra white parts are installed underneath the calves to extend the rear boosters, and 2 extra blue ones are installed on the sides of the lower legs that slide and sort of \”snap\” in place. The heels are easily removed and replaced for the En/FAZZ. Details on the bare leg and the attachments are beautiful with no visible smearing. Nicely done.
Weapons:
The ZZ comes with that double beam rifle, which is detailed very well, especially in the exposed interior parts. Obviously because of the nature of the material and the size of the model, the cockpit hatch on this rifle doesn't open. Mounts on the arm in Enhanced or FAZZ mode. Held by the manipulators when in ZZ configuration. Since the model doesn't transform to G-Fortress mode, it's limited to cannon use only.
Hyper Mega Cannon is techincally for the Enhanced ZZ or FAZZ as it requires the Enhanced ZZ backpack as a docking connection. Its well articulated and rotates at the butt to suit different positions of the arm. It's also fairly heavy and very detailed. Between the Zeta and FAZZ hyper mega cannons, this is my favorite version. Very sleek. There is an extra left HAND where the fingers are positioned wider apart available in the kit for this cannon. I almost missed it, but there's a small clear plastic stand to support this cannon when it's being held… though the figure is capable of holding the cannon without the stand.
Backpacks: 2 of em. One for the standard ZZ and one for the Enhanced/FAZZ. Both are attached at one place, at the waist. The En/FAZZ version also has 2 small connectors at its base to connect the hoses that will come from the crotch attachment for the En/FAZZ. The standard ZZ pack is, well, standard. It's kind of just there. The missile pods don't open, though otherwise it's nicely painted and detailed. The En/FAZZ on the other hand IS nicely detailed AND the missile pods open to reveal the missiles inside. A nice touch. The pod packs are removable to allow the Hyper Mega Cannon to be installed (it takes the place of one of the packs). Both backpacks offer the giant, rotatable beamsaber holsters as well.
Beam sabers: 4 of them (with 2 plastic pink beams included seperately that can be installed in any of them)
In the END:
I got what I wanted. I have the MG ZZ so I wasn't really looking for that, and I didn't want the white FAZZ from the Sentinel series (FA-010A Fix Figuration #0005). I actually like this ZZ/FAZZ more than the MG in that it's smaller and easier to pose. The worst part for me is that waist section for the FAZZ that refuses to be installed without those hoses being properly stuffed into the rear waist attachment. The balance is surprisingly good, but I would really have liked to have a stand go with this figure. Except for the waist for the FAZZ, it was enjoyable to put together and has quite a few pieces. It has quite a bit of articulation which is good, but I was looking more for a static figure, so the somewhat stiff movement is a boon to me. However, I still recommend this only to ZZ fans as I think some parts may need a little work, especially the waist and side boosters. For the price I'm still happy. But for the MSRP, I wouldn't not be so jubilant.
