GFF 0034 RX-78GP03S Stamen & Weapon System

This figure features the GP03S Stamen, with a modified version of the Dendrobium dubbed the “Weapon System”. Rather than the large enclosed storage bays, this one features open equipment racks. The Stamen arms unfold to grasp items from the equipment racks such as missile pods and bazookas, and the original BFG from the Dendrodrium is included. There’s been a lot of mixed reactions to this from Dendrobium fans. Overall I like it MORE than the original Dendrobium, which always seemed unnecessarily bulky to me.

I’m not really a Gundam guy, per se, but when I saw this Gundam Fix Figuration in the store, it re-ignited my love of Japanese mecha. Compared to the other Gundam models in the Fix Figuration series, the Dendrobium (Stamen ‘robot’ plus Orchis booster/weapons pack) is a monster! The main cannon is LONG! Its a little awkward to ‘play’ with, but you can pose the Gundam in pretty much any position you like and either have him inserted in the Orchis or he can pose outside of it. The detail on this item is impressive. It assembled fairly easily, though there are some components that don’t fit together all that well. The packaging is fun to look at, but took me “forever” to remove all of the components, which are all twist-tied to the three layers of clear plastic inside the clear plastic box.

From what I understand, the designer of this interpretation of the Dendrobium took some artistic license compared to the original that appeared in the Gundam anime, but after looking at both versions, I think he did a pretty good job. It’s definitely different, but still fun.

I like how this figure looks with my Macross mecha; it looks pretty intimidating. This is a good quality item and I’m pretty sure you’ll be satisfied with it, Gundam fan or not.
