This is the second kit in Bandai’s HGUC lineup. For its age, its not that bad of a kit. The MS Itself was used in the Mobile Suit Gundam series by M’Quve in a battle against the Gundam in the Texas Colony. Although he lost, and the Gyan was destroyed, the Mobile Suit itself is still quite impressive.
Head: Nothing too spectacular here. Theres stickers for the monoeye and the head’s polycap connection lets you pose it pretty well.
Torso: Standard HGUC Construction here. A sticker is needed over the cockpit hatch to get the coloring just right (or you could paint it) Its got a solid construciton… looks just like it did in the anime.
Skirt Armor: A Strange skirt armor for this… theres some kind of small cylinder in its… crotch region… that i have no idea what purpose it serves. Its its own part though! The skirt armor doesn’t really move though… so it limits this kit’s poseability.
Backpack: Nothing fancy here. Just the standard “clip this into the back” thruster.
Arms: Nice construction. However, the polycaps in the elbow are completely exposed, like in older HG 1/144th kits. Also, be careful with this elbow joint. The polycap is tight and the peg is weak. Theres potential for break-age here.
Legs: The Legs utilize the same polycap system as the Endless Waltz HG Fighting Action kits. The polycaps are exposed compeltely. They have good knee joint motion, but because of the skirt armor and the lack of foot articulation, this knee movement is pretty useless. Nice styling though.
Hands: The hands for this kit aren’t on your usual half-circle polycap. They’re old-school peg insertion like in the old 08th MS Team HG 1/144th Kits. There are 3 hands. 2 open fists and one right handed angled fist for posing with the sword.
Accessories: The blade for the sword is transparent. The empty sword can’t be stored in the shield though. The Shield has a pretty simple connection but it can be angled either alongside the forearm or pointed directly forward. Its also pretty heavy for this kit, but doesn’t cause too many balancing problems.
Overall: One thing I haven’t mentioned… the colors this kit is molded in… ridiculous. Instead of blue… you get a mostly purple Gyan with some lavender limbs. It definetly needs painting to look like the original Gyan. Not bad for the second kit in the HGUC lineup, but definetly not up to the HGUC standards of today. At this point in HGUC designing, they hadn’t even developed their own HGUC polycap set and were still using the EW HG Fighting Action Polycap sets. This means you get a bunch of Gundam Wing polycap hands that are useless to your Gyan. I suppose if you lost hands to your Gundam Wing Endless Waltz kits, this would be a nice surprise, but they can’t be used with your HGUC Gyan. Since the Gyan is a close-combat MS, I would’ve liked more articulation, but again, its an old HGUC kit. If you need a Gyan at 1/144th, this is the one to get, but if you want an impressive Gyan kit, pick up the MG.
