N.P.GPM: HGUC NRX-044 Asshimar Build 2008/12/09
This is a very cool design. I had been looking for it for quite some time. When I saw it at San Diego ComiCon I snagged it for $10. Great deal. Well, it was worth every penny. The problem came when trying to figure out whether to paint it before putting it together or in sub-assemblies. Many of the parts have multiple colorings, and of course there is no easy way to mask some of the parts. Well I chose to paint some of the parts before assembling and that was a huge mistake, the tolerances between the parts make it so that any layer of paint you put on makes the fit terrible.
Now another problem I had was the paint I used. A company named Floquil makes great paints that are available in rattle cans but I must have gotten a bad batch because after about 4 hours, the paint still hadn’t dried.
There are major problems with the legs. The interior parts are not well supported, so alignement pins do not have enough support to go into some o the holes. The directions are somewhat confusing with illustrations that do not show the parts placement on some of the more tricky spots in the model.
Overall, the mech design is VERY cool and Badai did an okay job recreating it. However, I think t \hey could have thought through some of the engineering a little more carefully to make the model more ‘user friendly’. Because of this, I am a little afraid to transform the thing into MA mode. I would still get the moidel, just be careful, take your time and try and paint in sub-assemblies. Good luck and happy modeling1
