a2crafts: HGUC RX-93 ν Gundam Build 2008/12/09
Cagalli-bi: 1/144 HGUC RX-93 ν Gundam Review 2008/12/08
Kind of a mini-review, there’s some things I really REALLY dig about this kit. First of all the gunmetal. I sincerely hope that gunmetal like the kind that the HGUC Nu Gundam uses for it’s joints becomes Bandai’s new standard. It really makes this kit look ace.
Secondly, I really love the funnels. Once again, it has been done right this time. The funnels all connect solidly, and they aren’t loose or floppy at all. Each funnel has a number on the back, and you use those to arrange them in the proper sequence.
Thirdly, the shoulders. Yeah, I really like the shoulders. They kinda simplified and shrunk down the MG mechanics and stuck them in the HGUC shoulders, and so they have the new pseudo-standard increased upper shoulder movement that has been very cleverly hidden by panels on top of the arms.
Fourthly, the construction has some pretty snazzy bits in it. For instance, the head is something I have never seen before. It has a genuine helmet construction, which is quite fun! Oh, and the tabs on the gun and bazooka handles are a great touch!
Of course, there’s a couple things that bother me. For one thing, I wish there wasn’t so much sticker use on the funnels. I haven’t had any problems yet, but I’m predicting some. I’m sure it would not have been insurmountable for Bandai to make parts that are the right color for that. Also, and this is also something they should have done, they should have molded those bands on the bazooka to be black. It would have actually been quite easy, by molding the front and back sections of the barrel separate, and then connecting them with a black molded connector that happens to have the band details on it.
But these are minor nitpicks! If you like the Nu Gundam or HGUC models, you should get one! It’s a really good kit, and it’s nice and easy to assemble. (my 7 year old nephew helped with mine)
