Medarot Designs by Fujioka Kenki

Back when I lived in Japan (1999-2001) I snatched up anything in print that I thought had cool mecha designs. One of those items was a guidebook for a GBA game called Medarots. I don’t know much about the game, but the designs for the “medarots” were cool, so I bought it. Only later did I learn that the designs were done by Fujioka Kenki of AoZ fame. This was all before AoZ came out, but I was an AoZ fan for quite a while before I recognized the similar design styles.

Most are cool, but also a little cutsey.

Others are less cute but still cool.

And others are just plain weird.

They are also all in my flickr account here.

Let me know which ones you love and hate!

Dude! That flying attack toaster in the lower right is AWESOME! I want one! Is this the same series as Medabots? I have seen the series at game stores, but never thought anything about them.

Yes, the US name is Medabots. The game itself is for kids, kinda like Pokemon, but instead of capturing creatures you build Medarots.

I remember these Medabots as well and as figures with interchangable parts. Maybe 5-6 yrs ago you could get them at Toy R Us. I got one of the really anime looking mechs on clearance and kitbashed with it.
